About Coach Victor Hicks

"Coach" Victor Hicks is the founder and lead instructor of Coding with Culture, an organization designed to teach computer science and digital literacy through an “HBCU-Ready” lens to scholars in grades K-8. In addition, Coach Hicks serves as a CS and STEM educator in Atlanta, Georgia where he continues to bring culturally-relevant and sustainable instruction in the aforementioned disciplines to students of all ages for over 20 years. Building rapport with students and educating the “whole” child are pillars of Victor’s educational philosophy. Coach Hicks received the “Everyday Hero Award” from the Inspire EDU organization for his commitment to bridging the digital divide for African-American students. His innovative approach toward combining computer science with Black culture was highlighted in an article in Forbes magazine among other educational publications.

Coach Hicks’ mission is to get as many scholars as possible exposed to the rich history and cultures of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He is a firm believer that it’s never too early to begin the journey, and offers college tours, the Psi Phi Beta HBCU-Ready Step Team and other experiences to light the HBCU flame in elementary and middle school students nationwide.
